Description
Get a taste of all things Scottish with this stunning tour of historic castles, stunning lochs and perfect drams. Travelling west from Edinburgh, the tour’s first stop will be Clydeside Distillery, one of Scotland’s Scotch Whisky Distilleries. With 44 bottles of Scotch Whisky exported every second, you’ll learn all about the perfect dram and taste a couple too!
Explore Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park stopping at the quaint Highland villages of Aberfoyle and Balmaha. Aberfoyle is a beautiful location at the southern edge of the West Highland Fault Line which was often frequented by Sir Walter Scott. You’ll get the opportunity to watch a sheepdog demonstration, learn about the sheep in the area and duck herding. Alternatively, pop into the village shops and admire the woollen mill. Then it's onto the ‘Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond’ where you take time at Balmaha to admire views of Ben Lomond with a short but steep hike up to Craigie Fort. You will enjoy lunch in either Aberfoyle or Balmaha.
The rest of the afternoon is spent in Stirling. Discover the impressive Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s most important structures both historically and architecturally. Many have been crowned at Stirling Castle, including Mary Queen of Scots, and it was central to William Wallace’s fight in the Wars of Independence. Alternatively explore Stirling, geographically one of the most significant towns in Scottish history. You can visit the new gin distillery or wander through beautiful and ancient streets of this medieval old town.
Take in views of the stunning Kelpies — the world's largest equine sculptures. Made by Andy Scott, these two 30-metre-high horse-head sculptures are based on the mythical shape-changing water creatures who disguise themselves as horses.
