GOLDEN TOURS SUSTAINABILITY PLEDGE
Certified carbon neutral
We are recognised as carbon neutral by Carbon Footprint. As a company, we successfully balance the carbon dioxide we emit into the atmosphere with the amount we absorb. This helps slow global warming, improve air quality and ecological recovery, and reinvigorate natural landscapes. We were awarded the certificate for the assessment period of 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023. Golden Tours offset a total of 2,333 tonnes of CO2e during this time.
Recycling in every office
We have invested in recycling bins across our premises to ensure waste is correctly disposed of, and our offices have removed all single-use plastic items. Recycling helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by limiting energy consumption because it typically takes less energy to reuse than extracting or mining virgin materials.
Reducing paper consumption
We have been making a concerted effort to favour technological solutions to help reduce our paper consumption. Since 2019, the finance department has become 95% paperless, and the transport department is now using 30% less paper. We are proud to achieve these results, and we will continue to focus on managing our paper usage.
Removing plastic ponchos
On our Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tours, we no longer supply plastic ponchos to save on single-use plastic. Guests are encouraged to dress for wet weather during the winter months to ensure they stay dry when travelling on the top level of the bus. Doing so will stop 100k plastic ponchos going to landfill every year.
Sustainable headphones
The new headphones on our Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tours have 15% less plastic than the previous ones and we now use compostable bags. The headphones can be used repeatedly, and we encourage all guests to use them beyond the bus tour.
Vehicles
We are committed to helping keep the transportation industry sustainable and environmentally friendly, with vehicles that pave the way to a greener future. We champion the widespread adoption of clean and efficient transportation solutions, mitigating the impact of carbon emissions on our planet while ensuring seamless mobility for people and goods. Our coaches are fully emissions compliant with European directive EURO6, and all our coaches and buses run on biodiesel and mineral engine oil.
We prioritise our customers' needs and preferences, providing them with a diverse fleet of environmentally responsible vehicles tailored to all requirements. Our coaches are modern, with 2019 plates, and our buses have an average fleet age of just 5 years.
Electric buses and repowering
We have signed a contract to repower 18 buses in our fleet from conventional fuel to fully electric. The first of the 18 are due to be delivered in March 2025.
We use electric MPV (multi-purpose vehicles) for our VIP Private Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter, and other small private tours. On 8 August 2024, we received our first electric coach. The bus will be used for the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter.
Embracing cutting-edge technology and advancements in transportation, we continually strive to push the boundaries of sustainability. Including, the use of a water reclamation plant which enables us to wash our fleet more efficiently and can reuse 70% of water.
