Description
Experience the rich history of the Tower of London and uncover its incredible secrets with an exclusive after-hours tour of the grounds with a Yeoman Warder. Popularly known as popularly ‘Beefeaters’, and covered head to toe in Tudor dress, Yemon Warders are ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London who have been safeguarding the Tower for over 700 years.
After the crowds have gone home, you will step into the Tower and hear stories of its captivating past. As the grounds fall silent, the secrets behind the walls come alive! A night filled with mystery and intrigue, your Yeoman Warder guide will share facts about Crown Jewels, the lions and elephants who once resided there, the ill-fated women who met their end in the fortress, and more.
Pause outside White Tower as you learn the history behind the iconic castle and its impressive armoury collection, dive into the original use of Traitor’s Gate, and discover how the royal place became a notorious prison. The once-feared fortress is bursting at the seams with tales of time gone by and hearing them from a traditional Beefeater guide is a truly remarkable occasion.
The tour will finish with a view of the Ceremony of Keys – the oldest military ceremony in the world and an event that very few people are lucky enough to witness.
