St Mary’s Guildhall Coventry has a rich history and interesting past spanning 700 years. It was the centre of power in England during the War of the Roses, has housed the Crown Jewels, was the prison of Mary, Queen of Scots, and has hosted famous literary figures such as the English novelist and poet George Eliot.
You can explore the newly unveiled medieval kitchen on this self-guided tour around the guildhall. It is one of the best preserved in England uncovered for the first time in 100 years. See where feasts would have been prepared for kings and where the poor of Coventry were fed during the Victorian era when it functioned as a soup kitchen.
