Description
Discover the home of Anne Hathaway, the wife of famous playwright William Shakespeare. Located in Stratford-upon-Avon, step inside the 500-year-old cottage and explore the quaint farmhouse. Built in 1463, the home originally only consisted of 3 rooms. Today, over 500 years later, the home comprises of 12 rooms in total.
Anne Hathaway was born in 1556 and was raised in this very house. Home to 13 generations of the Hathaway family, the famous cottage holds an immense amount of history. During your visit, you can admire original furniture including the Hathaway bed.
Take a stroll through the gorgeous garden that surrounds the house and admire the beautiful plants and flowers. This would have been the very place where Shakespeare would have courted Anne in the early stages of their relationship. Hathaway’s family were sheep farmers, so at the time the garden would have likely been a farmyard with some livestock and an herb garden. Many of the plants that you can see today are mentioned in Shakespeare’s plays.
